Default Cigarette lighter outlet issue

A couple of months ago, I was using a portable air compressor, plugged into my cigarette lighter, under the dash, to air up a low tire. While filling up the tire, the compressor quit suddenly. Thinking I had burned up a fuse, I checked it and it appeared to be OK.

Now, the same outlet does not seem to work. Specifically, when I plug up my cell phone, it does not charge the cell phone. What's really odd, is that the red light on the charger comes on, but the phone does not charge. The outlet in the back of the car works just fine. Very fustrating because I'm always charging a phone, GPS, flashlight, etc...

Oh, I have a 2004 Monte Carlo LS. Thanks in advance.

Any thoughts?

If you have an extra fuse swap it anyway. I see that you checked it but for some reason if it were slightly messed upp you may have problems. Otherwise check with a multimeter and see how many volts are there.

maybe the socket went bad. sometimes the tabs in them quit making contact. You can get a replacement in the HELP! section at autozone or advanced auto. They are pretty cheap and easy to replace

I had the same issue. Change the fuse to be on the safe side.

Problem solved! I had no idea there was a fuse for the cig/aux on both driver and passenger side...the one on the passenger side was bad. I swapped in a new one and problem solved. Still don't understand why the cell phone charger light was on, since the fuse was blown.

Regardless, it works and I'm happy.

the fuse on the driver side panel should say CIG/AUX its a red 10A, the other one is on the passenger side panel which reads C/LTR which is a light blue 15 fuse
