Default Checking Transmission Fluid Level

Hello,

Does anyone else find reading the transmission fluid level on their Monte Carlo tricky? I understand the car must be up to operating temperature and checked while running in Park. I find the dipstick very difficult to read because the fluid is so light against metal rod. I am nervous about over filling it. Does anyone have any tricks to easily read the fluid level on the dipstick?

The dipstick has holes though, if the hole is empty then you know where the fluid isn't.
