Default Synthetic Transmission fluid too...?

So synthetic motor oil seems to be what a lot of people are switching over to, a few more bucks, but good benefits from it. But then I saw synthetic transmission fluid...my transmission on m '03 Monte Carlo SS seems to be fine, only time it has trouble shifting is if you stomp on it and then let off in the high RPM's, like it wants to shift but since you let off the gas it stops. But anyway, is synthetic tranny fluid worth it just as much as the motor oil is? If this extends the life of my tranny I will gladly do it. Anyone else know any other benefits from it? And how much will it cost?

The tranny fluid switch that I did was from Dexron 3 to Dexron 6. It runs cooler (it just wasn't invented yet so our cars called for 3)

Are Dexron 3 or Dexron 6 synthetic? But you say Dexron 6 still works, just runs cooler, thus prolonging tranny life. I'll take it.

Dexron 6 is not a Full synthetic, its a semi-synthetic from the factory...

Dexron 6 is GM's newest tranny fluid, and the ONLY tranny fluid they offically license. So while you can still buy Dexron 3 at auto stores, it is no longer licensed by GM. The reason GM only licenses dexron 6 is because it is compatible with all previous Dexron fluids.

Personally I have been using Valvoline Dexron 6 because other than Amsoil, it is the only one I can find that is a FULL synthetic fluid. Mobil does not have a Full synthetic ATF meeting the Dexron 6 spec.

I also bought a new transmission pan for my car...It has a drain plug (such a nice feature, makes for much less messy changes) and it has cooling fins to help cool the fluid even more. I was not cheap ($200), but IMO worth it. I installed that on my car at 20,000 miles, and changed the fluid. Then did a fluid change again at 50,000 miles, and will start doing 50,000 mile changes from now on. So my next change will be at 100,000 miles.
