transmission fluid

Dexron 3 is what the transmission came with, it's the GM recommended fluid. If you want to really keep your tranny healthy and spend a bit more money go with Dexron 6, it was produced after 2003, but will still work with your tranny. This is a half synthetic blend, overall just healthier fluid.

wow, finally have a member thats somewhat close to me. oakland eh? im on the other side of the bridge.
u want a good fluid, my recommendation is to use AMSoil tranny fluid. its not gonna be a power difference, but it does offer great benefits for long term use and durability.

for the economical choice, i would recommend Napa dexron 3 fluid. i've used it in many vehicles over the years with no problems and it doesn't break the bank. Valvoline dexron 3 is one i also recommend. it's even held up in my derby car trannies that aren't cooled (since i cut the cooling lines back to the tranny and loop them together) so it's taken lots of abuse. just don't go buy the cheapest stuff you can find on the rack.

I second the notion for Dexron 6. Stick with the GM brand of Transmission fluid. I wouldn't get into all the aftermarket stuff.
Your car will call for Dexron 3, but as was stated, that's simply just because 6 was not invented yet. But it is completely compatible and will run cooler.

can someone refresh my memory on what brand engine oil/tranny oil the GM dealerships use? i thought i heard valvoline once a long time ago but i'm not sure anymore. just curiousity on my part.
here at Cummins we use what they call "Cummins Blue" engine oil, when in fact it's actually made by Valvoline.

I know i'm late on this post, but go with Dexron 6 for sure...none of the Dexron 3's on the market are actually licensed by GM anymore, so you really don't know how up to snuff the formula is.
GM Dexron 6 is made by Petro-Canada....
AcDelco Dexron 6 is made by Shell...
I use Valvoline Dexron 6 Full Synthetic.
