Carb Help, again.
Alright, well I have my 1st car, 1977 Monte Carlo. Now a few weeks ago I just finished re-building the carb, with a carb kit. It ran super great, until the past few days. I was told that to remove alote ot carbon in the old engines, run the car with the filter ***. off, and lightly spray in some water, through the carb, and keep the throttle at a mid range RPM. The water builds steam in the cylinders, and helps remove carbon build up.
Alright, so I did this for a few mins, and alote of black **** was exiting out of the exhaust. Car seemed to run a bit better.
Now, when I start it up and run it, it pops, and smoke sometimes fire shoots out the carb and my filter cap has gas all over it. It seems to be running waaay to rich.
I don't see the 2 mixture screws comming loose. Any sugestions ?

Black stuff is FUEL. Way too rich. What type of carb are you running (Qjet, Edelbrock, Holley, etc)? The 2 mixture screws are usually in the front - at the very bottom of the carb. These screws should be about 2 to 3 turns out. In other words, turn the screws IN all the way until they stop. DO NOT FORCE THEM or you will ruin them. Back them out about 2 turns and start adjusting from that point. You are trying to get the HIGEST RPM from the engine at idle. Turn these screws one at a time. Turn it about 1/4 turn and listen to the engine speed. The idle will go up/down as you adjust. You also need to make certain the choke is NOT working (all the way open) after the engine warms up. The choke will also cause a rich mixture if it stays on too long. Good luck.
The carb is a stock 2BBL. Manual choke.
Yes, the last time I did did the water thing, I had just re-adjusted the whole carb, It was running mint. Choke is not stuck closed. Like when it runs, I can see the fuel spraying around, some of it comming out the top. I will re-adjust the mixture screws and see what happens.
