brother got a 96 monte carlo 3.1. it was working one day and then all of a sudden the next morning it wont start.

battery tested out good, fuses look fine, tried rocking and banging on starter it just wont fire.

just a clicking from fuses/starter; im thinking bad starter, but would it go bad in just a few hours like that. Anyone have some suggestions about what else to check before i give up and bring it to service?

how could i test the starter selonoid with a digital multimeter how much should i be getting to it?


yah also the security and volt light is on, the security light is flashing

 

u cant test a starter its caled a bench test all u would do is test it and it will make noise and it will crank but just air not the motor there is no real way to test a starter trust me i had the same problem with my 2005 ford escape with only 75 miles and it enedeed up being the starter but u should first try the spark plugs

I had the same problem with my 2001 monte ss. What a headache. It would not start then after 30 minutes or so It would fire right up. I also would have the security light come on. I took it to my chevy dealer and they said it was a bad security module. They changed it out over a month ago and no more problems.
