Default Best ATF for 04 SS Supercharged

I have started getting a hesitation in shifting on my Monte Carlo SS Supercharged.
I checked the fluid and it has gotten dirty in 2 years. It has 70K on the clock right now.

I am going to drop the pan, change the filter and fill her back up with ATF this weekend, but I don't know which ATF to go with.

When I did this 2 years ago, I went with Amsoil Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid.

I just went to the Amsoil website and I decided to see what they think I should be using now in 2010. They directed me to Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid, Low Viscosity Synthetic ATF, and Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid.

It sure would be nice if they picked just one. I was also thinking of giving Redline or Mobil1 ATF a try.

What do you guys and gals use in your delicate transmissions?

be care full if you used synthitic trans fluid before still use it. it should take dexron VI mobil type but if you used synthetic befor still use synthetic now. do to trans is use to how thin the fluid is. if you go with regular trans fluid non synthetic it probably cause issues. when you drop your pan check for eregular meatal shavings as in big colection of metal particals near or on the magnet if there is very little dont worry if there is alot worry because there is some thing wrong because a gear or clutch is going. i would drop pan change fluid and see where it sits.

I am going to go with Red Line D4 ATF. It is pricey, but I want this trans to last. Good point with sticking to synthetic now that I have used synthetic already.

How many miles are you guys seeing before transmission issues?

most see 70k to 140k even higher on our trans it is a hit and gold thing. most of us have gone alot of miles on our trans before issues. some see very few miles on theres it very's to be honest. i have 65k on mine i already done two pan drops and a flush to get all new fluid in it. our trans recomends dex 6 mine calls for dex 6 the dex 6 is full synthetic so you dont have to worry. i had the shop put in royal perpel trans fluid in mine. i never seen any problems with mine nock on wood i dont have any serius mods on mine so i dont have to worry

I just got my filter and case of Red Line D4 ATF. I will post an update when I am done with the job letting you guys and gals know how well the D4 ATF works in this transmission.

Does anyone know the torque spec for the pan bolts???

Pan bolt torque is 10 ft lbs. There wasn't much on the pan magnet.

The shifts are much smoother and there seems to be more power being transfered in the lower power range. The biggest thing I noticed was that when I took my foot off the gas, I would coast without engine power a much further distance and I would loose speed much slower. I believe this will help the gas mileage big time.

I cannot recommend Red Line D4 ATF more. I will be doing this procedure again and using Red Line D4 ATF. I believe this is the best fluid for this transmission that requires Dex III.

I used fully synthetic Valvoline Dextron VI when I changed the tranny fluid on my 2004 Dale Jr car. No problems so far.

Not all Dextron VI fluids are fully synthetic. Most of them are a synthetic blend.
