6th Gen ('00-'05): Belt Problems

My serpentine belt will not stay in place. It appears to be slipping off the back (engine side) of the crankshaft pulley. I think it looks like that pulley is out of alignment with everything else. What would cause the crankshaft pulley to misalign? Hopefully these pictures will help show what I'm trying to describe. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi tj.
That pulley is the harmonic balancer and it is coming apart. A rubber bushing separates the two pieces. By chance was the crank sensor replaced recently? If so, the wrong pulley remover tool/technique may have been used to remove the balancer to access the sensor. The harmonic balancer needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the reply. You confirmed what I was figuring the only solution could be - to replace harmonic balancer. I can only assume it just normal wear failure, since no work has been done to crank in the past. The only repair in conjunction with belt was last Aug the ac compressor seized, and I had to replace it along with the shredded belt. Possible that ultimately caused this failure, but I can't really call it premature, this is, after all, my daily driver and has 181k on it.

Let me get it removed first. Auto Zone has new aftermarket one for less than $60 in stock. That may be my better option. Thanks.
