Default bcm questions

ive been having issues with it and its def cooked haha...but i really cant afford a new bcm I thought if i picked up a used on from a salvage place, that maybe i could get it flashed to my car and have it installed and maybe i;ll save alot of money. I called me dealership and talked to the shop manager about it and he says it cant be done, that they are locked to the cars vin and can never be reprogrammed for options or whatever, is this true?

Hi `Dave, sorry 2 read about your BCM
I'm not sure if it can be rebuilt or replaced with one from a
junk yard. The below site states that it rebuilds them
for Chevy models for $163. ?
Check their link until one of our Expert Tech Member's
makes a post & hopefully can answer your question.
Wish you good luck & I hope you can find a inexpensive one..

Default bcm

Do a Google and you can find them on-line for @$50+S&H if you can't find one in a local boneyard.

Most places core charge applies.

I don't know what the stealer (sic) is talking about when he states that a rebuilt BCM can't be flashed to ANY vehicle that used the identical model other than to con you into buying one from them that lists around $240 plus $208 to install and flash.

He's not lying when he says that it is flashed to your VIN. That VIN represents your car. The key word is CAR. He's just not telling you the whole truth.

Flashing the BCM is allowing the balance of the entire computer system to recognize and accept it.

Installing the incorrect BCM (i:e LS for SS) and the car would probably run OK but many of your optional accessories wouldn't work properly. Maybe the car wouldn't run at all since they are directly in-line with the PCM but I've never tried it so can't say for sure.

Someone correct me if I am in error about the latter paragraph.

When you say the "dealer can't flash it" I don't know whether that means he tried and couldn't or simply stated he couldn't.

Most likely the latter and that was true before around 1996 but not so in recent years. They simply do NOT want to install a used part into your car and I can't blame that for that. But I do blame them for their shifty explanation and blatant sin of omission. It CAN and IS being done.

Forget the stealer.

Check out Autozone. Not commonly known; but, I think that you can order a flashed BCM to your VIN for @$100. I DO know for a fact that they offer flashed PCMs once you give them the necessary information. Can't see why the same isn't true with a BCM.
