Default Battery type for 2006 Monte Carlo SS

Hi,

I have just (as of two days ago) bought a 2006 Monte Carlo SS. I am in the process of getting the car cleaned up and catchup, or more accurately, establish a baseline for regular maintenance (ie, do all the regular maintenance items immediately so I know when the next maintenance is due).

One thing that struck me though, was the battery. This battery has top terminals. Has GM gone back to top terminals, or is this something the previous owner did for some reason?

I would say its something the previous owner did, i believe the the 06-07 have side terminals, i know mine does but i have an 04. Also just a heads up the battery is a MAJOR pain in the but to change.

If I had to guess, there is not adequate clearance between the side of the battery and the front of the engine for side terminals and cable routing. Every component in the 06-07 SSs engine compartment is shoehorned in there and, yes, the battery is a pita to replace - it's doable but it really helps to have two sets of hands when doing.

00-05s with the V6 have plenty of clearance off the side of the battery.

Thanks for the confrimation. Its been a long time since I have seen a GM vehicle with Top Terminal batteries, so I sort of figured the previous owner had done a conversion of some sort. Although I can see where clearances are tight in the engine compartment, as Matt/06MistreSS said.
