Default alternator problems

I replaced my alternator and the meter is still reading at 10 volts. I unhook my battery and the car dies out. I was wondering if there was another reason why the alternator is not keeping the engine running? I was thinking it could be the electrical connector to the alternator.

Default RE: alternator problems

The alternator in your Monte Carlo receives a "turn on" signal from the powertrain control module. The PCM will store diagnostic trouble codes for charging system malfunctions. It might help to get your Monte scanned for any DTC's. Something that you DO NOT want to do is disconnect your battery with the engine running. This can cause many problems and the spending of alot of $$$$$ due to damage that can be inflicted upon the many solid state control modules your car has on board!
