I am not 100% sure, but on my 06, there is a screw in the ****. If you put it all the way into first, you can see it. I'm assuming I would un screw that, and it would come off...I really don't know for sure though. I also don't know if the 98 has a screw on it somewhere...Sorry I couldn't help more. But try putting it in first, and looking on the front side of the shifter for a screw or two. (the side that faces the radio)

There is like a c-clip thing that slips into a slot on the backside of the ****. I am pretty sure it will come out with a magnet.

Default won't come out of park

My '98 had this same problem. I left it in Neutral and set the brake until I fixed it. It ended up being the shift interlock mechanism & had to have it replaced. I had it fixed at the dealer. Lubing it only helped temperarly. Like I said I eventually had to replace it. You might have to get to that from underneath.

Default Leaving it in neutral

Hello, I can't leave my car in neutral because you can't turn off the key to take it out.
How did you do it?
