98 Monte still fiddlin with the can't shift out of park when cold problem
Hello all,
I'm still futzin with the can't get out of park problem. Do any of you know how to get the shifter knob (console shift) off of the shaft. I'd like to examine the switch. Thanks!! Gbrown |
I am not 100% sure, but on my 06, there is a screw in the knob. If you put it all the way into first, you can see it. I'm assuming I would un screw that, and it would come off...I really don't know for sure though. I also don't know if the 98 has a screw on it somewhere...Sorry I couldn't help more. But try putting it in first, and looking on the front side of the shifter for a screw or two. (the side that faces the radio)

on my 95 mc z34 its a clip on back side of shifter pry it out and shifter lefts off of it

There is like a c-clip thing that slips into a slot on the backside of the knob. I am pretty sure it will come out with a magnet.

won't come out of park
My '98 had this same problem. I left it in Neutral and set the brake until I fixed it. It ended up being the shift interlock mechanism & had to have it replaced. I had it fixed at the dealer. Lubing it only helped temperarly. Like I said I eventually had to replace it. You might have to get to that from underneath.

Leaving it in neutral
Hello, I can't leave my car in neutral because you can't turn off the key to take it out.
How did you do it? G |
