Default 86 monte ss a/c help

hey guys, i'm new here so take it easy on me

i'm havin some trouble with the dash vents on my 86 ss. the defrosters and the floor vent blow hot or cold, as they should, but the dash vents don't blow at all. i read somewhere that the problem is the "flapper" in the dash, and it is stuck(the same one that makes the BANG) but i don't know how to get it unstuck. any help?

i've been reading around at it seems like this is a common problem. apparently most of them made a "bang" when they opened, and ours did almost since it was new.(my mom bought it new). it sat for around 4 years and didn't get used, and i guess during this time it sealed up pretty good. i just can't figure out how to get it loose, as i drive it a lot now.

If they are vacuum controlled, whick i think they are, they might have either fell off, or developed a hole. I think you can remove the glovebox and see them. Also check your controls for loose hoses.

sounds like the cable that selects either floor, defrost or vent is stuck on something. pull the temperature select plate and see if something like a piece of foam is getting in the way of the cable
