Default 2006 Monte Carlo Electrical ???

Just joined your site and am a little overwhelmed by all the information here. I started by trying to find a similar condition to what I am experiencing, but haven't found one yet. Please forgive me if this has been posted and answered, but I am close to losing my mind over this and need help.

I took my car to a mechanic to get it inspected. The car was running perfectly, but needed and received two new front tires, front brakes, and an oil and filter change. I dropped the car off after work, and the mechanic pulled it inside overnight. The next morning he did the work, but when he tried to take it outside, it wouldn't start - wouldn't turn over - nothing. Not only that, but the power windows won't work, nor do the power locks, lights and just about everything electrical. I believe the clock and radio work, though. He installed a new ignition switch and a new battery, but no change. I went down there today to get a few things out of my trunk, and discovered I can't get the trunk open. He has now had the car for 3 days. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I love this car, but I can't spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars experimenting with fixes that don't work...and I really need the car to get to work.

Please help, if you can.
Thanks,
Rin

I'm assuming your mechanic checked all of the battery cable connections (when I say that I mean both ends of the cables not just the battery terminal connections) - make sure they're all properly secured AND clean. Check your fuses. If those two check out okay do a check to see if the alternator is bad.

Thanks for replying - I will make sure he checks all the cables and fuses. He told me something wasn't communicating with the car's computer, but I don't know what that means or how you would fix that.

I had a similar issue with mine last spring. It was the secondary ground wire. It was not obvious. As the bolt that holds the cable on to the fender is screwed into the painted frame of the car. If the treads of the bolt are not making contact with the treads in the frame due to corrosion your Monte will be deader than a door nail.

Secondary ground runs off of you primary ground cable it's the little black cable next to the Big black cable. The fix? they put a new bolt in to secure the able to the frame

Secondary ground - that sounds like a good thing to check. Thank you for the suggestion.

Default Update

As an update, my mechanic replaced the BCM, and everything is running normally...that is, except for a check engine light that wasn't on before all this happened. Anyway, thanks to all who responded.

Glad it's running Rin! Can you just have the code(s) cleared and see if the lights go off?

Thanks Tadd - yes, codes are cleared, light is off, and all is well (once again) with my Monte.
