Default 2006 Monte air conditioner

When I turn on the air conditioner in my 06 Monte, the light flashes 6 times, and then turnes off. The dealership that I bought it from said that it won't turn on because it is below a certain degree.... 2 other service managers said that it should turn on, and that it sounds like it is low on freon.
I tend to believe the 2 other managers, as I have dealt with them for years, I just thought that since I bought the car from the 1 dealership, that I would ask them first.

Which is it?

Sorry, forgot to mention, I live in Western New York, and it is cold, around 0-20 degrees during the day.

The one service manager may be telling you the truth. I would check your owner's manual, it should explain if there is a feature such as that in the climate system.

The owners manual says nothing about temperature limitations, I already looked.... the only thing it says is that when you choose the defroster, the air conditioner compressor will engage unless it is below 40.

Yes, the AC is used to dehumidify on defrost to help the windshield to clear and not fog up while driving. I have seen my AC light on steady at temps well below 40. I would take it back to your dealer and make them actually fix it. If they can't or won't call GM there is a number in the back of the owners manual to call with this sort of stuff.

When dealing with GM or any manufacturer The louder you yell the better service you get.

New info:
Well I have to change part of what I said. On the drive home from work I decided to see if the AC would come on, hit the button it only flashed 6 times the stayed off a balmy 10*. Evidently there is a temp setting for it to operate. I do know that I have seen it on with the temp in the mid 30's. Maybe when the ice warning comes on at 34* it disables the AC. I didn't see any reference in the owners manual either.

I tried using the a/c this afternoon on the 06 LTZ. It was roughly 26 deg outside.....
The light flashed 6 times then went out.
Tonight when I got off work and started the car with the deforester on... the a/c compressor never kicked in it..... it was only 12 deg outside....

The ambient air sensor will not allow the A/C compressor to turn on if the outside air is too cold. And even if it was low on freon, and it was say in the middle of summer, the compressor would still turn on.

I found out that it is truly temperature controlled, even though there is nothing in the book about it. It is somewhere between 35-40 degree, as it would come on at 40, but at 35, it would not. I can understand why it would do that, but it would be nice to have the owners manual state that somewhere....

Thanks to everyone.

so with this, in the summer if you like your car really cold it will only let it go to a certain temp??

because in the summer time in my car you can see your breath...and i love it...

i would hate it if you couldn't let it go that far...
