Default Air conditioner

Does anybody know how to recharge your own air conditioner ? I heard that you need to make sure the compressor is on. How do I do that ? And also what hose do I hook it up to ?

I did it a couple of months ago to my 03 monte (3.4LS Comp). It was pretty easy, if low r-134 is the only problem. The part stores sell the recharge bottles with the gauge and UV dye, it is what I used. Read the directions on the can. The engine should be warm (operating temp) and the A/C should be on for at least 3 minutes. You really can mess up the hook up, the adapted is specific. You will be charging the Low side and the fill port is next to the firewall on the top of the engine close to the middle. Take the cap off and plug the can in. The gauge should read low, before you pierce the can and begin charging. Your goal is mid green. If all is well, turn the handle on the top[ of the can to pierce the can and let the coolant in. With the engine running, the a/c compressor should start automatically. Follow the rest of the instructions on the can until you reach the desired range.
