6th Gen ('00-'05): 2005 Monte Carlo stalls at low speeds and RPM’s fluctuate
I have a 2005 SS, it’s got a lot of miles 247,000. I started having this issue about 2 months ago. The car just randomly started dying at low speeds. We thought it was the MAF Sensor, replaced it and the same thing. We then replaced The Air Idle Control sensor and the same thing. I have cleaned the maf sensor a few times and it’s still stalling.
It only stalls basically in parking lots, when I have my foot off the gas and slowing into a space or reversing from a space. It doesn’t stall at red lights or if the transmission is in park. The rpm’s also either rev way too low or way too high. Sometimes I have the bury my foot on the brake to keep it from flying off. Also when I slow down to stop at a red light the car makes a loud jerk/kick and the rpm’s fluctuate. The thing is it doesn’t always do it. I went like 3 weeks without it stalling and it just started again. I gave it a tune up less than a year ago so I don’t think it’s a spark plug or wire. I’m thinking maybe the fuel pump or the throttle body, I don’t know though. Like I said it’s random when it happens, there’s no rhyme or reason to it. Any ideas what it could be? It’s extremely irritating.
