Dang! 4-Bills for a Water Pump. That's a lot of Gas right there. You should take a course and learn how to wrench a little bit. Then, next time you need some part swapped-out ... you do it yourself and save a lot of dough. If you have the talent to run the wires and secure the audio components in your Monte ... you can learn how to spin a wrench or two and save money doing a Pump and a Gasket.

Then, when you get ready to add the parts for all your Mods ... you spend a Saturday or Sunday with the hood open and do it all by your lonesome self and save enough money to get more Mods!

You're right, RickCoMatic! I need to learn to wrench on cars. My ex-bf used to do some of that for me! He changed out some kind of part (CV Joint?) on my '97 Monte Carlo. The transmission shop wanted to charge me something like $1200! Anyway, whatever part he changed for me stopped the transmission fluid leak.

They told me at the dealership that the water pump is only $100 and something. The rest of the cost is labor. He said it takes about 2 hours to change.

You need to investigate the possibility that your Radiator Cap isn't an air-tight seal and needs to be replaced. If the Radiator Cap allows the internal pressures to vent; the coolant will boil away rather thann have internal pressure keep the boiling point above 212-degrees.

When the Cap isn't Steam-tight ... it vents through the Cap and the pressurue in the system allows the liquid to boil away. This isn't a good situation for Aluminum Heads that need their entire water jacket area surrounded with coolant.

If not the Cap ... you have another place that isn't Steam-tight and its allowing the pressure to escape rather than pressurize the cooling system preventing the liquid from boiling.
