There is never any smoke from burning oil. Sometimes there is some white smoke from my exhaust when at high RPMs

White smoke from the exhaust is a symptom of coolant leaking into the combustion chamber, usually from a intake manifold gasket or head gasket leak.

I lean toward the problem being the oil filter or it's housing like Chibi said, or the front crank seal.

Look at the oil pressure sending unit right by the oil filter.

The dealer can look it up and tell you if the recall's been done.

Also, white smoke doesn't always mean coolant. When you have an LS4, it means your DoD just went back to 8 cylinders, with a vengeance.
