Default 2003 Monte Carlo SS Please Help!

My car has been running out of gas. The gauge is out so I've been using the trip miles and filling up every 300 miles or earlier. Two days ago my son ran out of gas at 205 so we filled it back up. Today I ran out of gas on my to work at 127 miles. It fires right up and there are no other issues in performance. It runs great except for this issue. Any help would be so appreciated.

As you reset the tripometer, are you also taking note of how many gallons are going in? I'm curious if there is just an issue with the EVAP system or vent for the filler cap that is making it click off like it is full when you are not nearly filling the tank.

Otherwise, you probably have a fuel leak somewhere, and those are dangerous and should be taken to a mechanic asap.

I'm with Cibiblacksheep , your not getting the tank full. I have exactl same problem with my 2002 Grand Prix. I get somewhere between 250-325 miles on a tank of gas. Odds are the fuel sender is bad and needs replacing. City driving and a lot of idleing definitely drops the mileage. Not sure if you have a fuel used settings in the system but that's what I use on my car. Good luck

when you runt he tank empty, change the fuel filter. Any particulates that are normally in the tank have been put into the fuel line and into the fuel filter. I'd keep track of how many gallons of fuel you put into the tank. Any check engine lights? Have you ever changed the spark plugs, those effect mileage as does O2 sensors. I'm about to put in new O2 sensors as mine are 15 years old, no check engine light but the voltage on them is marginal, so for $100 for 2 of them I'll swap them out and hope i get a bit better mileage, especially at the California price of gas
