Default fuel

Hello all, I just acquired a 76 monte w/ an aftermarket gas tank, I am assuming it is the same design as the oem tank. but when filling it burbs fuel back at me, is this a normal thing for this car? or should I start looking for a venting issue? I own a 78 eldo and no fuel filling issues altho the filler neck tube is way shorter and straighter. any help would be great thanks Jer

I had a '76 several years ago, but don't recall any burping. I think you're on the right track regarding the venting. I would check for clogged EVAP canister fittings &/or hoses.
