Question Maximum fuel capacity.

So I drove my monte way past e. I was broke this past week so that's why I ended up doing it, but now I'm fine on cash so I filled up right away of course. I'm aware doing this will burn out fuel pumps and also causes a host of other problems. So, whenever possible I avoid this. This is the second time I've done it since I've owned my car, and the other time I filled up at the nearest gas station (nearest one was 30 miles away) with the needle just reaching E before refueling, during that instance I put in 14.3 gallons of fuel to top it off.

Anyway, I ended up putting in 16.4 gallons when I filled up this time. Is this possible on our tanks (2001 SS N/A V6) or was the gas pump I was using faulty?

Nevermind, just located it.

http://www.internetautoguide.com/car...rlo/index.html

64 liters = 16.9 Gallons.

I guess it would be safe to say my car has about 2 1/2 Gallons to spare after the needle truly reaches E.

I only had 15 miles left. o.o Or less, I guess... wouldn't assume the tank to hold exactly the number posted.. definitely cut it too close.

I always reset my tripmeter and go about 400 miles between fill ups. Don't always trust gauges and warning lights....I had a Dodge Ram pickup in the past and the fuel gauge would play tricks on you!!

Interesting input here for sure, although I'm surprised that the tank is larger than that site said, but I guess it is a rather large coupe.

As far as accuracy, I checked the computer stats on mpg a couple thousand miles ago and it was spot-on after a compare/reset upon topping off.

The manual for my Monte says 17.5 Gallons. But I have got 18.3+ gallons in mine on multiple occasions (yes, the needle was buried on E for a while. LOL)...
