Default 2002 Monte Carlo SS 3.8 Temp gauge sensor

Hello...
I am hoping someone knows if on a 2002 SS 3.8 there is a separate sensor for the temp gauge?
My book shows a CTS 2 wires ylw wire and BLK wire BLK to ground and ylw is input to PCM.
My shop manual shows a single green wire from temp gauge going to an ETC sensor.
My cooling fan is continuously running and my temp gauge works on and off
Any help would be appreciated

Ok I changed that one it has 2 wires but There must be something that goes to temp gauge.
the one your mentioning has two wires both going to the PCM only.

My book says that the later cars 2000 and above don't use a temp sensor. They only have a wire from PCM to dash warning light!
Thing is my car has full gauges a temp gauge.
So that would mean there is a temp send unit with one wire somewhere
Says it's on thermostat cover area
I'll check this tomorrow!

Well it certainly isnt on the thermostat housing in my 05.. Actually of all the 38s ive had, there isnt anything in the area of the thermostat housing that could be a sending unit.

Ill go out in a bit and see if theres a green wire in that area. I have a feeling the manual is wrong on this one..

Thanks but I just fixed the issue with CTS.
The short harness that goes from CTS to plug on harness over front valve cover I replace it..And now my temp gauge works and fans are off.
Thanks appreciate your help...And Help from all who replied.. This is a great site.
I guess there is no sending unit with one wire on block to temp gauge. Just the 2 wire coolant temp sensor. On my car it's located under thermostat housing on block right next to manifold pipe. (Not easy to get to)
Not a good place if I say so myself but it is what it is...
Now next thing to tackle is the PO304 code I'm getting.
I replaced plug wires and spark plugs. And all fuel injectors.fuel filter also. Engine still pops when I rev engine to 4k. Not sure why. I tried the unplug each injector one at the time thing and yes #4 doesn't seem to change anything so something is going on in that cylinder.
This mon after the holiday I'll do a compression check.
And if this cylinder #4 is low I'll squirt little oil In cylinder to see if it's a valve or rings!
im hoping if one of the two it's the valve not rings..
I'll post my findings here
