Default 2001 Monte Carlo aftermarket stereo install

Hello,
I am aware that certain features such as the cars chimes are run through the stock head unit. I was wondering if any vital features would be lost by not rewiring the existing head unit to the trunk before replacing it with an aftermarket head unit. I do not want to keep the stock one but if that is the only way for the car to function properly does anybody know how I could go about doing it?
Thanks in advance!

They make a whole kit to put a stereo in and keep the chimes ect. I keep my stock radio because if your ignition ever goes bad (and they do) you'll have to have it to program the new one. At less I couldn't find another way to do it.lol

They sell things you can buy to allow you to keep the door chimes/ steering wheel controls with your aftermarket stereo. I would recommend buying them through crutchfield, I found they were a very helpful and reliable site to purchase from.

I have an 2001 also, you do not need to wire your head unit into the trunk it is just helpful and looks kinda awesome, included with the wiring harness kits you can buy will be a little black box thatll control all that and so that you dont lose any of those features, also it is important to have the box hooked up otherwise you may not properly have sound through out the car.
