Default 1997 Chevy Monte

I have a 1997 Chevy Monte and I have had some bad luck in the past month or so. The check engine light has come on as well as the low coolant light is on as well. The water level is ok and there was not any leaks until 2 weeks age when the thermostat stuck and water started to go to the oil case. I put so block seal inside and the water went away from the oil but I still need to change the oil. This is the first 90 model Monte that I owned and just needed some info. My other problem is that my fuel gauge does what it wants to do work don;t work. Need help with this one...Thanks Jerry

If you have water in the oil that means there is either a a crack somewhere in the engine or heads or you have a blown head gasket.

As far as your fuel gauge, it sounds like your fuel sending unit is bad. That sucker is located in the fuel tank which is a SOB to change.

Thanks for the reply and yes it is a SOB to change. As far as the water in the oil I used some block seal and the problem with the leak it stopped and stopped running hot. I know it was a temperary fix but I had no choice.. Thans again..

Jerry, how many miles are on your car? The reason I ask is my 97 had 98k on it when my fuel pump quit in April. I bought the pump assembly (comes with sending unit) for $299.00 at Autozone. My sister and I did the work, and now the car runs excellent and the fuel guage is accurate. If your car has anywhere near the mileage mine does you might want to do the pump if you're going to be dropping the tank anyway.
