1996 monte carlo 3100 v6 running issues

Default 1996 monte carlo 3100 v6 running issues

I have 1996 monte carlo v6 3100 which just died while driving threw the code for a crank position sensor so i replaced that. Now when i try and start the car it starts hard and when it does finally start it is running rough and when i press on the accelerator it dies. Checked the fuel pressure on the rail and its showing 37lbs also reset all the code in the computer. After starting the car now i get a p0300 code for misfire any suggestions on what to do next or what the problem could be im at a loss right now. I guess my next step will be to replace all the plugs any suggestions would be very helpful

plugs & wires, mabe a coil pack. make sure the plug wires arn't crossed if anyone had them off for some reason.

also, you may want to make sure the crank position sensor and all the wireing to it is good. i'm not sure about monte's, but i know that in a ranger like i've got, the crank sensor is what tells the coil pack to fire.

Since you replaced the CPS, I thought the car needed to have a CPS relearn done, but looking at a shop book for a 3100, does not appear that is the case.

- Check for vacuum leaks, do that first. In process of changing the CPS, you may have knocked a vac line loose or damaged a line. An easy way to test is get a can of starting fluid, with the car running, mist it around all vac lines and connections. If the idle changes when spraying in a specific area, you are on the way to isolating a leak.
- Ensure nothing changed with the firing order (that you have the plug wires going to and from the correct plug and coil).
- If it's been a while (50,000-100,000 miles) since plugs, wires, fuel and air filters have been changed, a good time to change those (even if it does not solve the issue, it's good maintenance). Note, while changing plugs, look for any that appear wet or look different then the others. This gives a clue to which cylinder might be causing your mis-fire.
- The fact the car dies if you hit the accelerator does not sound like a failing injector or a coil pack (I've dealt with failing coils AND injectors on the 3100, 1 bad of either or should not be enough to stall the car, it just runs for crap).
- At this point, you may want to inspect fuel pressure. If it's low, replace the pump.

That's the best ideas I have at the moment off the top of my head.
