Default 04 rear passenger strut almost touching tire

I hope somebody can help with info/opinion. Daughter bought 04 Monte LS in August, its winter in NW Pa, she is young, decided to deliver pizza, grrr, on the right side in the back the shock assembly is down within an inch of touching the top of the tire, drivers side back has around 3-4 inches clearance. She was hearing rubbing, used hot water sprayer car wash to clean it out, stopped rubbing noise but its a lot closer to tire on that side. I told her not to drive it till we can see what it may need and be sure of what is wrong and safety. Neighbor looked underneath, nothings broken or let loose from what he saw, I have back problems, cant do it anymore((used to work on all our cars).

check for a broken coil spring. also check to make sure the strut tower is not rusted out really bad. could be the shock/strut going bad which is most likely the issue. good luck!

When neighbor looked it was almost like a blizzard, he thought it was possible previous owner changed only one side(I never do that!) and put on wrong size, I felt bad even asking him! I will go to her house and look for myself today. Thank you for the info! It confused me but we were thinking new strut assembly both sides.
