the up side of switch(driver side) seems to be getting less and less of a contact, needs replacing, does the door panel need to come off? I notice screw under grip, looks like it may hold top plate down. hand in cast,looking for easy way out ,,help

 

Welcome to the forum Lee! What year Monte are you referring to as the 80's, 90's, and 00's are all different as to how you replace or fix these switches.

I had to replace mine as well in my 2001. The top panel (the panel where the switch is located) can pop off. But you have to be VERY careful, otherwise you'll ruin the finish of the top panel.

I'd get a panel-popper to do it.

 

Panal poper would be a good idea... I always use a flat blade screwdriver

By the way...you said what should you expect to pay for the switch....

I think mine was $35.00.
