Nice write up Taz. I never realize GM states there were 6 generations. Since MCF always spoke of 7, I thought there really were 7.... Good to know!
Thanks!!

Great explanation! I have often wondered why GM decided to call it part of the 6th generation. My personal guess, is because they already knew that the Camaro was going to cause the end of the Monte for Chevy's two door sports car (which it did), so they did not want to call the Montes last 2 years a "generation."

I don't know about anyone else but I find the look of the 00-05's are WAY different than the 06-07. The front end change was a big difference and the rear bumper isnt anywhere near as bulky as the older models.

Considering the transmission mounts line right up and the engine mounts are close I can kinda understand why they consider it the same generation. Sort of like how the 2nd generation Camaro has the same overall body but the front and rear ends look different between 70-73, 74-77, and 78-81. Those all have the same drivetrains though (except the big block only ran till 72) but everything between the front fenders and the rear fenders is the same. Only difference is the dash was changed in 79.
So I can kinda understand why GM considers it the same generation to be honest. None of the other W-body platforms changed at that point except the Monte and Impala. Everything else had changed at least 2 years prior.
