Default WTF is wrong with my mirror?!

Hey guys!

When I first bought my car, I noticed that the mirror was a little messed up, and it didn't really bother me until now. My interior is almost perfect, except for this one little thing. I believe it has to do with the auto-dimming feature, which doesn't work anymore. Anyone have any ideas on how I could solve this without dropping like $200 for a completely new mirror assembly?

Thanks!
Tyler

P.S. I'm not sure how well the picture will show it, but if you can see, half is dim and the other half is normal. And the top is a little messed up for some reason too.

That's what happens when it gets REALLY hot inside your car. These mirrors are filled with electrochromic fluid and it can leave your mirror and this happens. It actually happened to 2 of my mirrors, and I had to replace them. Now I have my ventshades and I keep my car windows cracked on the really hot days so this doesn't happen.

Honestly, get a new mirror ASAP, if the fluid gets on anything it WILL be ruined. This stuff DESTROYS anything it touches. Let's hope it's not leaking out of the mirror yet.

I don't believe it has leaked.. Where did you buy your mirrors from and how much were they? I'm glad I'm not the only one this has happened to.

Thanks Chibi!

I just got one of my replacements from MoradPartsCompany.com

Another was a member on here parting a car.

Make sure you get the non-onstar mirror too.

Usually ebay has a bunch of them, that's where I got my new one for $30 after smashing my head on the original mirror, cracking the bracket that keeps it tight. :P

Thanks for the info Chibi! Mine is the same way. I left my car sitting in the driveway uncovered like a D/A in Florida for the month of May while I was in WV and when I came home the mirror was messed up. What you said makes a lot of sense. I think mine got so hot that it burnt the fluid right out of the mirror because there is NO sign of leakage.

I'm going to look into the cheap Ebay mirrors that someone posted about. I love her but dang she's 11 now and the mirror really doesn't bother me being that way cuz I have Limo tint........ but I sure don't want it to leak and screw up my dash or my console cuz she's still in great shape.
