wiring HELP

Default wiring HELP

I just bought a wiring harness for my car('04 monte)and on the harness, i wire up all the colors right but, my cd player does not turn on unless i connect the yellow wires with the red wires.but then its constent and im not able to shut it off. Can anyone that went threw this tell me what to do.

Sure thing man. 100% chance that your wiring harness is wrong. Im going to guess that you have a Metra harness. Hopefully you have a test light, as this will make this sooo much easier.

Chances are your yellow wire is for constant power. This keeps your settings and provides the head unit (cd player) with the power to do so. This should be connected to a constant power wire. When you probe with your test light, and have a door open, this light should be on regardless of where the key is.

Your red wire is the head units power wire. You will need to wire this directly to a 12v source that is onlyhot when the key is in acc and on. I can pretty much guaruntee this is where your issue is. Once you wire this up, you should be off to the races my man.

I dont know what this "metra harness" is i got the relocation to keep my stock radio. What i need to know is what wire i can use to splice the 12v (red wire) wire to. so that it will ture on and off like normal

just splice it off the power wire coming from the stock plugs. That is the constant power source that turns the stock radio on and off so it should work with the aftermarket radio. splice the yellow wire with the 15 amp fuse on it to that red power wire

I have an 83 Monte and im trying to install a cd player in to it and i have all the wires hooked up but for some reason i cant get power i have found a diagram that says there is an orange wire that supplies power but I cant seem to find it anywhere with the rest of the wires. Anything im doing wrong?

I don't like this idea because the stereo will be drawing constant power and can kill the battery. There really should be an orange wire in there somewhere.
