Default Sub/Amp upgade

looking into buying one

Alpine SWR-12D4 Type-R 12" Subwoofer with Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils Alpine SWR-12D4 Type-R 12" Subwoofer with Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils

and matching it with

Rockford Fosgate R500X1D Prime 1-Channel Class D Amplifier Rockford Fosgate R500X1D Prime 1-Channel Class D Amplifier

I currently have 2 10" subs and my amp is wired to my battery with an 8 gauge wire... apparently it's a no name but is clearly labelled as 8 gauge on the wire, my brother suggests I strip it near the battery and measure the diameter to double check, my question is will an 8 gauge wire be suitable for this setup or should I be looking into a
4 gauge like this one 4 gauge like this one

and lastly, is the sub and amp a good match?
thanks in advanced for any input

You should upgrade the wire but if you are going to you might as well go with 1/0 gauge wire. It will better in the long run no matter what. Its not very hard to run it through the car. I have it in my monte. The alpine type r is a great subwoofer for sure but you could get a bigger amp if you wanted with something rated around 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms. That amp would still work with no problems as long as you set the gains on it correct.

thanks for the suggestions : ) will be placing the order soon, now time to research some plans for a nice sub box

I'm thinking ported but if it proves too difficult to build to match specs I may just do sealed, my current 10's are in sealed and I liked it when they were new... now they are really old and sound crappy

any good sites for free box plans?

I am pretty sure I saw you on facebook before. Look up the page low budget car audio and someone on there would be able to help you with that. I have never done a box before.

You really don't need that large 0 gauge power wire for your setup. 4 gauge is more appropriate for the setup you are planning.

you are right that 4 gauge would work but why not just do 1/0 since you are already rewiring cause when it comes to people with bass it normally seems they want to keep upgrading.
