You could go to a body shop or locksmith for the bad lock to see what is wrong.

Yes, you can get a remote start and keyless entry for a 96 monte- I have it on mine (including remote control windows).

Take it to a dealer or call a dealer and ask them to run a check for you. if your car is already equipped with an extended range sensor, then they can easily add remote start to your car with a computer and just sell you 2 new fobs already configured for around $100
chibablacksheep i asked a chevy dealer about the auto start and what you said above they told me if auto start didnt come with the car it wont have the conections for the auto start hook up. and they also told me it would be 700 to do a auto start aplication. i asked them if a person had a ls model of a impalla or a monte from a 05-07 they told me they dont do it because it is some thing they cant do. i think it is f-d up for them to say and tell some one inquiring to say sorry your out of luck

Hey, anyways I have been low on funds lately so I forgot all about calling the dealer to see if I can get this thing hooked up with remote start.

Anyways I called my dealer and they said its something they can't do that I would be better off with an after-market system. I have a 2006 v6 3500 that didn't come with remote start installed.

I recently bought a keyfob of ebay (part# 15912860) with remote start on it and programed it with my car but when i push the start button it pops the trunk , the unlock/lock/trunk buttons all work fine.

I am thinking about trying another dealer to see if it is possible, but I have a feeling I am going to get the same result. If its a $100 or so its worth it for me to get it done, but if it is more than that then forget it...

starters aint expensive, but you're gonna need to switch fob's i just put a remote start on my 04 3.4 and it works fine, the only problem i have is with my remote start, you'll need a bypass unit to start the car remotly, that ties into your ignition pack to sync everything up. it's about 15$ on ebay, thats where i got mine.

DEI 555LW is what you need for the starter thats what i use on mine.
