Default Radio module/interface question

Alright I have a question, Im getting a cheap temporary aftermarket deck, I'm tired of the stock one :p
My car is an 03 with onstar, am I able to use the non onstar interface???
For one, it's cheaper and two, I don't ever use onstar or ever plan on using it lol

I believe you can install an aftermarket deck without OnStar (as you pointed out, you would abandon it). Also, keep in mind, you loose the end-user-interface through the radio for things like the oil life, tire pressure and fob settings (there are other ways to work those systems). Also, the door chime runs through the radio.

I know you have some options for wiring harnesses. Some work with OnStar, some have extended cables to re-locate the factory deck for the non-radio extras it does and others let you ditch the factory deck, I believe keep a door chime and put in your aftermarket deck.

I ditched my factory CD player for a stock MP3 CD player (offered in the Cavalier and Venture Vans). Here's the info I have on that:

So does this radio just have different capabilities to read a cd that has mp3's burned on it? Data-wise, I mean, so you can fit more than a typical music audio cd?

thanks maniac, i was actually talking about the interface/module that keeps the door chime and such :p

scosche model GM09SR
in some of the eBay descriptions it says "Not for use on Premium Bose or Onstar systems"

and since mine has onstar i was wondering if by that they mean the onstar will be disabled or the entire setup wont work at all?

im pretty sure it will work and just disable the onstar feature, which i dont mind but i want to make sure before i buy it haha
