Most of us who have mods have a tuned PCM. My was custom tuned by a friend with tuning software, specifically dialed in to my modifications.

If you want to get a tuned PCM, figure out what mods you want first, then do the PCM. And look at vendors such a ZZPerformance, Overkill, Intense

For just a CAI, you can disconnect the battery for an hour and let the car learn the new air flow. I would wait for more mods before you decide on a PCM.

However, if you aren't going to mod anymore, a nice PCM will always be nice.

You really don't "have" to upgrade the pcm with any normal bolt ons. The computer measures the air entering the engine (the nice thing about having a MAF system), and the O2 sensor outputs to always keep the engine running correctly.

The thing is, even the factory pcm on a stock car isn't perfectly dialed in to the specific engine- so it has to make adjustments all the time based on weather and such. So even getting a tuned pcm on a stock setup has benefits (on top of all the other stuff it offers such as shift performance and such)- the more mods you do, the more the pcm is having the skew to make the engine run normally, the better it is to get a tuned pcm to dial it in.

The downside is a canned pcm off the shelf isn't going to get your car perfectly dialed in. They do definitely modify the known problem areas, but it will never be as 'dialed in' as a custom tune done with your specific vehicle (scan, flash, drive, scan, flash, drive, etc).

Yes. Your computer is always relearning fuel trim changes from even such minor stuff as weather changes.

You should ask Mike from Milzy. He's really great to talk to, as I talked to him about the PCM and what it can do for my car (3.4L). He answered every question I had about the PCM tune. Starting at just $75 and an extra $10 for stage 1, stage 2, and +$50 for custom, you can't go wrong
