Default Parts for Stereo replacement

I have a 2004 MC SS and i'm looking to replace the stereo. I never done more to this car than replace the battery so i'm looking for a little help getting started. Lol. I'd like to have my steering wheel controls and programming functions still work. What parts do I need to do this? I read about some adapter for such an installation. What does the adapter do?

u need an adapter. you can get it from crutchfeild.com. It will let you keep using the controls on the wheel. u will also need a dash kit. u can get one for abround $10 at wal-mart. you will also need some kill subs and a good amp to make that thing rattle

the 04 monte, you'll first need a adapter to mentain your chimes and warnings. they are wired through the stero harness, cruchfield will put it in your bin when you buy a stereo from them, you'll also need to find a deck with that steering wheel support, most do, but they usialy require a separate unit.

for instance, for this particular deck.

the pioneer AVHc4200DVD, you' have 2 options for steeting wheel controlers

or

each one might work with dif set ups or veicles, so do some research.

for the chime device, it can be found here
