Parts for Stereo replacement

I have a 2004 MC SS and i'm looking to replace the stereo. I never done more to this car than replace the battery so i'm looking for a little help getting started. Lol. I'd like to have my steering wheel controls and programming functions still work. What parts do I need to do this? I read about some adapter for such an installation. What does the adapter do?

u need an adapter. you can get it from crutchfeild.com. It will let you keep using the controls on the wheel. u will also need a dash kit. u can get one for abround $10 at wal-mart. you will also need some kill subs and a good amp to make that thing rattle :)

talk to crutchfield, and if they ask you have a premium system, theyll ask other questions and set you up with the correct on, youll need the dash kit and also the antenna adapter and the rest is just deck and speakers or subs if your going that far.

the 04 monte, you'll first need a adapter to mentain your chimes and warnings. they are wired through the stero harness, cruchfield will put it in your bin when you buy a stereo from them, you'll also need to find a deck with that steering wheel support, most do, but they usialy require a separate unit.

for instance, for this particular deck.

each one might work with dif set ups or veicles, so do some research.

for the chime device, it can be found here
