Default NEW SYSTEM

just recently insalled my new sound system. out with the 12" kicker comp stillwaters and in with the brand new 15" audiopipe ipipes (dualvoice coil)in a dual 15" ported enclosure. all powered by a power acoustik 2000 watt amp.

i still have to wire the subs bridged out to 4 ohms. and i was given a distribution block thing so ill be running two 8 awg wires to the black and out with one 5 awg wire.

so i still got some work left but they sound pretty tight. (il have pics soon, hopefully)

you should be using a 4 or 1/0 gauge for that much power it will sound much better, a smaller wire could easily overheat and melt

rather than that hope it goes well and sounds good for ya

What are the specs on that amp? I'm assuming you're gonna be running it at 4ohms mono so that would be the only spec I'd need; what it puts out rms at 4ohms mono? Do you have any other amps in your system? If so, what's the specs of it? What are the specs on your subs? Reason i'm asking is cause I think you might be running power wires that are too small, but I won't know for sure unitl you get back to me with specs.

yeah well today i finished wiring the subs at 4 ohms instead of 2 which it was at before. and i finished by running 5 gauge wiring through the system..
my subs are rated at 800 rms, 1700 peak

The specs of the subs don't matter. If you're sure that wire is sufficient then I guess there's no need to continue the conversation, however I have a feeling you're awfully close to the max current draw of that wire. This is why:

For a 15ft run of 5ga wire, assuming total system voltage is 13.8v, the most maximum wattage of all your amplifiers running off that wire is 1075 watts, and that's IF your amp is 75% efficient. It would be even lower if your amp were less efficient. The one thing you have going for you is that Power Acoustic amps aren't very efficient, and the 2000 watt rating is most likely the maximum rating which is meaningless, so i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that at 4ohms mono that amp is probably rated to put out about 600 watts rms. Factor in the efficiency, giving it the benefit of the doubt, which is likely to be about 75% and you end up with roughly 450 watts rms. Now that I've done the math on the fly here, I think you're more than alright with that wire.
