LED Lights D.I.M. (doin it myself)
ok so im thinking about taking the cheap way out on this. My plan is to get some LED strip lights (blue or white) i dont know which one yet. But i want to take the strip lights and put then around the fog lights (neatly of course). Wiring? that is my concern. I would like to have them wired with the headlights so whenever the head lights are on, my little halo-wannabes are on. Now would it be ok to just tap into my headlights like that or should i use a toggle switch? some tell me to just use the toggle. But i dont know. My worry is that i just dont want to overload the power to the headlights. Please help me out with what my next decision should be. Thanks ahead of time cause i know i will get the info i so badly need.

i would just use a toggle, ive had a little expieriecne with electrical and you dont really want to tap into anything>sometimes it works sometimes it messes things up after a while you never know if it will be okay. you dont want to set your car on fire. plus tapping into you light might require a higher rated fuse and theres really no telling what size>so you go to high you could set a fire going to low and youll keep blowing fuses and thats never good for the battery.

yes thats very true. as nice as it would be to have them on whenever the headlights are on, its really not worth the risk. my luck really isnt the greatest most of the time. now on that note what would be the easiest and most effective route to take with wiring them up with a toggle? cause the lights are gonna be the standard 12v wire up i would imagine. would it just be like a straight from the battery sort of wire up? im a total idiot when it comes to wiring.

yeah you could go straight from the battery BUT make sure you use an inline fuse holder. also its not the best idea to ground it on the neg terminal of teh battery, just make your own ground somewhere about a foot away from teh battery. find out the fuse rating on the lights. it would be great if you could post up a link here as to where you got the lights and whatever else your using. why dont you do that and we could help you out a little more. one more thing the inline fuse holder usually goes on the posotive wire.

there was a thread on this subject previously. check it out.

in this thread it has a link to put your factory fogs in the oven at 350 for 5 min. and pull apart the housing, but its really about the way your planning.

Hey, I did exactly what you are talking about.... white strips of LEDs around the fogs..... I switched via ground so they turn on when the ground wire is completed.... here is a pic of how they turned out, the lights are two times white LED.I think it looks sweet, especially at night!
