Default Factory Tach

I am switching my '86 Monte instrument cluster over to factory gauges. I have found good wiring diagrams which I posted http://msnusers.com/1986montecarloinformation for the car but have a problem. There is a factory tach in the cluster to be installed. The wiring diagrams call for a FILTER located somewhere between the ignition coil and the tach. What is this filter and where can it be found? Does anyone know? Thanks, David

The filters I've seen look like a condenser out of the old points type ignition systems. They block ignintion interference to the tach. Try it without a filter and see how it works.

Thanks, 01. I went to a junk yard Saturday and found the filter. Yeah, it looks like a condenser. I got the whole setup from the distributor to the dashboard connector for $1.00. Also got a vacuum switch to control the lock-up converter for another $1.00. How's that for a GOOD day? Ha, ha.

I had an '86 LS and I took apart the dash to put in an aftermarket tach as my LS did not come with one. I think you need to use the filter. I didn't and my tach quit working, not to mention a jumpy needle. Course I could have hooked it up wrong in the first place.
