I'm going to guess if it can be done to the amp (or to the indash head unit), it will require a lot of work (as I don't believe these cars came with a changer options).
If I could offer what I feel is a better solution, get GM MP3 Radio 10348717. There's at least two GM Chevy MP3 radios that look a like, but I know from experience, the number I passed does work 100% fine with the '04 Monte Carlo (even though GM never offered MP3 radios in the '00-'05 Montes, they only offered on Cavvies and Venture Vans).
I'm running that radio in mine and I love it. I did have to get someone with a GM Tech II to unlock it and get it out of TheftLock mode. Now I load probably as much music as you can hold in a 10-disc changer in MP3 format on a single CD (and I paid $50 shipped via a seller on eBay a couple years ago).
If you decide to go this road, some people talk about removing a chip from the radio to "bypass" Theft Lock. I would advise against it as then the radio is not properly programmed for your car and it does have a couple of draw backs (I don't recall them right now).
