Default Dumb question I am sure

I was thinking of switching out the inner panels of the door and rear side panels. The ones that people paint or are sometimes a different color, the inserts I guess. Do the complete panels have to be removed? My panels are gray and my Moms are black. Thought about swapping here out to give us both the two tone look. It would be nice if they just popped out without removing complete door panels. I am capable of this project but dont know if its worth the time.

On the 6th gens I believe everything is molded as one piece. Or else I would've just removed those inserts on mine to wrap em in suede

The back ones are held in by plastic studs melted in the back much like a rivet. You have to take the panel off to get to the back and remove the melted part of the plastic stud.

The front are molded right into the panel I have not found a way to remove them. For basic black why not just mask and paint????

At least that is how it was on my 2006

Thanks guys. I was just sitting here brain storming some mods. They cant make anything easy for us. I could mask it and paint it, but I am sure that would lead me to paint the dash bezel and all that. Just storming for ideas.... Thanks
edit: if i did paint it i would use the purple like my car.

You can swap some pieces like I did:
- Door pull bezel
- Rear seat belt trims
- Clothes hooks
- Rear speaker grills (to do them right, I learned the hard way you MUST remove the rear dead, the grills are held in with a speed nut).

- I am planning to swap the front speaker grills (this will require removing the door panels and some epoxy, but it can be done).

- Was going to swap the power window switch pods (easy to do), but I felt it would look goofy.

Attached are some pics from my tinkerings.

I wanted the two-tone gray Pace Car interior pieces but they cost WAY too much and I was not in the mood to play with painting. This was a inexpensive alternative. Pretty quick and easy.

You could pick up a second set and paint those one's then keep the stock ones for resale.
