Default Which Amp for Subs

What wattage amp would be good for two 300 watt RMS subs? I heard a mono-channel would work best, but I dont know what wattage, or anything, that would run them best without blowing them

Whoever told you a mono amp would "work best" is right, in a sense. A mono amp simply makes installation easier cause you don't have to bridge channels and all that good stuff( except for the JBL PowerValve series mono amps, they need to be bridged ). But any Class D amp would work just as easy as a mono amp would. The main things you need to pay attention to are RMS watts, impedance, and the number of voice coils(as far as the subs go). You say the subs are 300rms, but what impedance are they(measured in ohms)? Are they DVC or SVC(dual or single voice coils)? If they are single voice coil, 4ohm subs, then you'd want an amp that can put out 600x1 @2ohms mono, 300x2 @4ohms(stereo, low pass), or 600x1 @4ohms mono. You would go for the amp that puts out 600x1 @2ohms if you got a mono amp and wired the subs in parallel(wiring in parallel cuts the impedance the amp see's in half, so two 4ohm subs in parallel=2ohms). You'd get the amp that does 300x2 @4ohms(stereo, low pass) if you got a 2ch amp and wired one sub per channel.

It will probably be easier to find the last amp, 600x1 @4ohms mono. In this situation, you'd have to get a 2ch amp, wire the subs in series(doubling the impedance, 8ohms) then bridge the amp(cutting the impedance in half) to give you a final impedance of 4ohms mono(cause bridging the amp gives you a mono, or single, channel). Some good brands are Alpine(V12 series), Rockford Fosgate, JL Audio, PPI, ARC Audio, MTX, Lanzar, JBL(PowerValve series), Phoenix Gold and Soundstream. Personally, I'd recommend the JBL PowerValve 1200.1, it does 600x1 @4ohms and will give you the best bang for your buck. I was kind of skeptical when I first got this amp way back when, but it pushed the hell out of my Cerwin Vega 12's, never had any clipping problems, didn't overheat, it was a steal!! I paid $400 for the amp brand new, and when you consider that the going rate for good amps is about a dollar per watt, you can see how much of a bargain it is. This is one case where "you get what you pay for" doesn't apply, cause this thing performs up there with the best of em, and for half the price.

If you want an even cheaper amp, I had good experience with Power Acoustic Gothic series amps. I bought one from those electronics shows that advertise "1000 watt amplilfier, $59!!!", you know, the one's that come around like once or twice a year and they sell everything from electronics to shoes and computer stuff. Anyways, I bought it for $120, it put out 440 watts(probably maximum, don't remember) and it pushed my MTX Thunder 4000 12's mighty nice for a long time, I think I had that setup for like a year or so. You could also get a Lanzar Vibe series amp, they are pretty cheap. Well, I think I got a little carried away here, but car audio is my thing. Good luck!!
