Default Single Muffler Setup

Thinking about changing to this type rather than the Y-pipe and two mufflers that come stock. Anyone seen one on a 00-05 Monte? ..Like the 4th gen Firebirds. Seems like the inlet is easy enough to route and it looks like the bumper will hide it well. Anything else I should consider?

I don't see anything. Was there supposed to be an attachment?

Just curious, why the desire to change muffler style?

Do you think there's enough space? Id think the reason this works on Camaros is because their spare tire is vertical and off to the side. The well on the hatch floor is much more rear biased and pretty narrow front to back. The wbody with the spare layong flat on the floor makes for a much larger well filling that space behind the gas tank.

The N-Bodies (Grand Ams and such) use a custom muffler GM designed that is a single muffler with two exits and I believe aftermarkets have come to bat with a normal looking muffler for the N-Bodies to continue using a single inlet and dual outlet.

That being said, I am certain it can be done with a W-body, space should be there if the N-body can. I am guessing it might be a cheaper option if you have to replace both mufflers and possibly the pipe. Curious if this has any gain or loss in performance.

I think the pic above is a 01. It looks like it would either have to sit under the rear cradle or under the front of the spare tire well or both. Certainly could do it, but just seems like it wouldn't tuck up into the body as well as the stock locations.

IMO for someone looking for a cheap route, I'd just switch to a single muffler. If you absolutely had to have 2 tips, I'd just weld up a matching dummy tip on the opposite side.

I took a look at some pics I have, and I agree, looks do-able, but I admit, I thought there was more space to tuck the muffler in like a f-body. Not so sure now. Personally, I agree go dual muffler OR just a single muffler if cost is a factor.

So I was playing around with this.. Unhooked my Firebirds exhaust and tried different placements on the Monte. It sure looked like it had enough room but it will take too much pipe bending and BS to get the tips right.

Just wanted to do it cause its different and I have so much exhaust "stuff" its not funny, well its kinda funny. I cant remember how many times Ive said, "just gonna return it" but then just throw it in the pile. Lol, I wanted to try to use some of it up but instead I have to tell the wife I need to buy more.

Gonna go back to the stock Y-pipe and dual muffler configuration. My "prized " custom T-pipe has met its maker and im gearing more towards simplicity this time.

If you've got all those extra parts and want to try something different, how about doing a helmholtz resonator? (branch of dead end pipe)

Would give you something to play with that not a whole lot of people on here have tried.
