Default Pacesetter Headers for the 3400

Hey guys check this out, i just came across this while I was looking for "3400 superchargers" lol, its a set of Pacesetters headers, crossover tube and the pipe that goes to the flex pipe lol (sorry, forgot the name of it)

http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/ch...072c12071.html

for $461.53, its not that bad. I'm considering this.

Consider it, and then remember how much of a pain headers are going to be to install, how they probably won't fit right, and need some cutting and manipulation just to fit in your car.

haha I"ll let the shop deal with that...but, if its made for the 3.4, would it really be that off?

Yes. It's going to be a pain to put on. I read all the time on Impala forums about how they try to put headers on and some pieces needed to be reshaped, or new brackets needed to be used, etc. etc.

But, does that go for the 3.4? It just doesnt seem right. Would you just recommend factory port and polished manifolds then?

Try whatever you want :P

But read about those headers before you buy them, check out 60degreev6.com about what they use, etc. etc.

Are you talking about the installation of ANY set of headers or just "Pacesetter" headers? I found a nice set of headers on PFYC.com... my only major concern is the fitting and the coating, living in MN. I have bad winters and would prefer stainless steel exhaust and headers. Read the reviews on these....

Any headers are a pain- in the 3800 world (assuming thats what you have since that is what the link is to)- they used to be known as the worst for a long time because they would over expand the Y pipe and you'd have a big gap and leakage where the pipes go in- causing many people to have them welded, and some places to expand the pipes going in to take up some of the difference.

I know a guy on the local car forums that works for them, and now it is 'supposedly' fixed, but who knows? I'd still measure and test fit that area first, and expand if necessary.

I also think that their suggestion for 1 3/4" primaries is way overkill for many supercharged applications- and am glad they came out with the 1 5/8" primaries- for NA (and I would include also mild modded supercharged also).

I will say I have never seen a set of mild steel headers rust all the way through (at least not on a newer car like a monte or grand prix- maybe it would be more of a problem if you kept the car for 30 years or something). Obviously over time, the factory paint will start to peel (especially if you nick it during install) and rust. Headers usually get hot enough and are so sloped that you don't get water just sitting and collecting inside or outside, so they'll never rust through as fast as the rest of the exhaust.

You do have a couple options if you really want to avoid rusting:
-get the headers coated (and be VERY careful during install)
-buy stainless headers (SSAC and their various knockoffs have stainless headers on ebay for less that fit just about as well)

Well it just doesnt seem like if headers are MADE for the 3400 engine, it'll be off and be a pain in the a$$ to install....so how does that work? I plan on doing a build and crate motor swap in the future, but i want to start with basic bolt ons before I get there. So I'm pretty much screwed then If i decide to get some aftermarket headers then huh? Stock manifolds, new dp and a full exhaust, all held back those stock manifolds. Their going to be a killer from reaching full potential on the exhaust.
