Default Pacesetter headers installed and very disappointed

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo SS N/A with a resenator delete flowmaster 40s and cat still in place with a cold air intake. I loved my exhaust sound and thought headers and downpipe would only make it better...but I was very wrong. The sound (with cat and flowmasters still in place) sounds waaayy too raspy im even thinking about installing the stock headers again. Is there any way I can get the raspyness out of the setup? The headers do give me more power i can feel it but the sound is too raspy. Help me pleaase i dont want to pay $360 again to have the stock headers put back in.

The raspy sounds are probably from the resonator delete and the new mufflers.

Yep, put the resonator back on, part of the reason it's there.

There's no restriction from the cat-back, so if you put the stock cat-back back on, then you will lose the raspy bad sounds, and keep all the performance gains from the headers.

It's already been said, but add the resonator back on.

its simple if it is to raspy inside the car i would dynomat all inside the car and trunk it will controll all the noise coming from the out side. its my opinion i allways liked the raspy sounding car it always let me know the car is on and ready to roll. its allways good to know it sounds better than a fart can on a honda cravic

Personally, I'd rather actually fix the exhaust rather than just mask the sound from the driver because then its still going to sound like poop to anyone else outside of the vehicle.

The 3800's are notoriously raspy, there really isn't much you can do about it- especially given most aftermarket exhaust setups. I definitely wouldn't pull off such a power-adding mod though, I'd try and fix it first with a resonator as said above- you'd hate to lose the power gain (which should've been the primary reason for headers anyways).

Yea I have a stock cat back and new headers, no raspyness at all. I think It just has to do with the resonator. You dont wanna sound like all the grand prixs that crank by haha.

I dis-agree about the dynomat. That stuff is HEAVY! It's GOOD, but heavy. I Dynomatted my trunk. I bet it added 40 pounds. You'd add about 100 lbs to do the entire trunk and floorpan.

And the stock cat-back exhaust, mufflers and all, is generally considered good up to 350-400 BHP. Are you putting out 350 HP yet?

Put the resonator back on. It does nothing to take away HP, but helps the sound TREMENDOUSLY!!!

Exactly as Wayne said, its all restricted up in the headers, so you replaced the main problem. Mabye even stick on a magnaflow or flowmaster resonator (whatever brand your loyal to) and see how that is.
