I agree to an extent. You don't want to lose too much power down low by going 3" without enough mods.

Why does he have to look into a top swap if he has a stock supercharged 04 SS Monte ?

im not worried about it at all. im just curious as to how exactly having your timing retarded would cause engine, and transmission damage?

If your engine retards and delays your detonation at the correct time it can increase KR like crazy.

We all know what KR can do to these damn engines.

i thought kr knock retard was the engine pulling degrees of timing to help prevent detonation sensed by the knock sensor. if the traction control is pulling timing out how exactly is it causing detonation, and knock retard? the only thing i can see happening would be a loss of power because the timing has been retarded. not trying to have a back, and forth with you here just trying to understand exactly how this engine/transmission damage is occurring due to timing being pulled when traction control is activating.

running too little of timing can knock the balance of the engine off too much causing excessive bearing wear, and burn the rings up, it's not as bad as full blown predetonation though, that is primarily what we have to look out for, most people run the car hard with the traction control off so usually too little timing isn't an issue, just avoid driving the car hard with TCS on

So there have actually been reported cases of engines breaking due to timing being pulled to such extremes while launching the car with traction control on?
