The rear manifold isn't too much a restriction that's why I still have it.

 

Yeah, the rear manifold on the 3800 is tubular from the factory. Always thought it was odd they went with 2 totally different designs for the front & rear.

 

ok found out its the converter with a perfectly round hole in the bottom

 

Does exhaust come out of the hole while its running (I'm also thinking water drain)? Can you get a pic?

 

yes it comes out of it and it gets really hot really fast

 

Did the cat clog up, and blow a hole through some rust? lol

You may need to get a new cat

 

Pictures would really help us. I've honestly never seen a drain hole in a converter before (because they are mounted close to the engine to heat up quicker)- usually only mufflers, plus exhaust should never be coming out of the converter- so I really bet something is wrong.

The heat thing is kinda hard to say- the catalytic converter is designed to heat up quickly- so it can be as efficient as possible, however- there is a fine line between normal heating up- and getting superheated due to being clogged up.

 

Just replace it. If there is a hole in it of any kind, its not supposed to be there.
