Looking for variety of options and opinions
I don't know if it's pipe routing, muffler hanger location or what the difference is but Magnaflow shows a different part number (16729) for the Monte Carlo versus the Grand Prix (16731) cat back you linked to.
If you go with headers you want to stay around 1 5/8" primary tube diameter with an N/A engine. The 1 3/4" primary tubes are for SC engines and if used on an N/A engine will shift the power band up the rpm scale. As a result you'll lose some bottom end power.
My suggestion:
Pacesetter headers with 1 5/8" primary tubes
Magnaflow downpipe
Magnaflow glasspack to replace resonator
OE mufflers
Tips of your choice
When I installed the Magnaflow downpipe I was prepared to deal with the dreaded P0420 code, but it has been on the car for about 2 years now and I have NOT had the code pop up yet - and I did NOT have it deleted when my PCM was reprogrammed. In fact, the only individuals I'm aware of that have had problems with the code popping up are those that installed a ZZP downpipe. Just a little food for thought...

I used this glasspack:
MagnaFlow Exhaust Products - For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles
With this intermediate pipe welded on to bolt up to downpipe:

I also had to add a short piece of straight pipe after the glasspack because the overall length was slightly shorter then the resonator. After installation all new piping got cleaned and a coat of ceramic paint to prevent rust formation.

I made a video a while back, but the ambient noise made it difficult to hear the exhaust. I'll see if I can find it and post if I do. When you're on the Magnaflow website look up a cat converter for your car and you'll see the downpipes they offer. The only difference is one is stainless and one isn't. Once you decide which you'd like do a 'net search with the part number to find your best price on it.
I happened by your old thread where you had a res and a downpipe and you were quite happy with it. I looked up the part numbers but couldn't find the resonator. Where was it?
I'm ultimately getting what you got (plus mufflers), or a full catback (for now). All stainless of course.
